Written in the style of Debussy preludes, this is a ternary form piano piece depicting the chase between two wild animals, one of whom is the prey. Modal harmonies (Lydian, Aeolian and Pentatonic) are used, with a nod to Chopin appearing in the blending of duple and triple rhythms. Cluster chords also emphasise the lack of harmonic resolution whilst bass note pedals are utilised to avoid the sense of key implied by the key signature.
